Upcoming Summer Trends
Fashion is always looking forward and while the summer is still winding down, we’re already planning for next season. Wayne and Noel just completed the annual buying trip to line up great fashions for spring/summer 17. After viewing the samples, checking the trend reports, and consulting with fashion experts, here’s what Noel has to say about the direction of fashion for next summer.
What are some new trends for Summer 17?
Rock and roll tailoring, to steal from Hugo Boss Orange, is the theme for SS17. All of our brands are diving into this and you can see rock influenced styles in all brands. Of course, John Varvatos will be par for the course, but Hugo Boss Orange and even Tommy Bahama are very rock influenced. You can expect to see lots of torn jeans this spring – the distressed look is definitely on trend. There has also been a resurgence of the cargo short.
What is the Summer 17 must-have piece?
Graphic tees! Graphic tees! Graphic tees! Again, all our brands are doing these and some are just too outrageous to ignore. One of the biggest inspirations is space invaders, expect summer 17 to be the year of the throw back to Atari games. Even Hugo Boss has the space invader emoji as a lapel pin on their sport coats.
What are you looking forward to having in store?
You know I love John Varvatos! The collection is off the hook this spring and we went heavy on colour – yes I said colour from JV! We’re also deep on their short sleeve sport shirts because they are awesome and we cannot keep them in stock. I’m also excited about Hugo Boss Orange Label because of the strong rock tailoring influence; it’s a fresh revamp on the brand. Finally unstructured sport jackets from Tombolini and Hugo (Red Label) are really well done for next season.
What is something the Fashion Forward Guy is going to love?
This guy is going to love the sport coats coming in. They are so good and I cannot wait!
What are some returning or continuing trends from summer 16?
Clearly casual sport coats are still going strong, as well as lots of colour and printed/patterned sport shirts.
Thanks for the insight Noel! Look for these products as well as many more to start arriving mid February.
